Anthrocon: Not Gonna Make It!

Sat Jun 3, 2006, 5:39 PM
Well, I've been thinking and planning to go to Anthrocon for a long time, but right now the circumstances and the 'talks' going on have reached something of a low point. A lot of factors are working against my visit to Pittsburgh this year, including parents, school, and money, but since I've gone for the past consecutive three years, I suppose it's okay to take a break.

I'd first like to apologize to people that I promised would be coming, especially Aelius, Josh, and so on. I figure that the trip, room expenses, and commodities of this shindig would set me back a cool $500 that I simply can't afford now that I'm staring down tuition that I have to pay out of my own pocket as well as looming housing fees and a new laptop purchase. I'm not in dire financial straits, but if I take this trip I'll have to take out a loan, and I'd rather not do that.

Basically, I'm gonna be on my own in the coming months. I have a lot saved up over the years, which will help since my internship is unpaid and my part-time job won't cover my immediate expenses.

While I'd like to blame this entirely on the money, I hate to admit that my parents, God bless 'em all things aside, influence some of the decisions I still make and question the validity of venturing far afield to drink and talk trash and doodle for a weekend while I'm taking classes. I suppose, when the ceremony is put in such a context, it's really not a good investment right now.

Therefore, I hereby resign my plans to attend AnthroCon. I did look forward to meeting fellow readers and JV enthusiasts, but the way I see it, another year of growth and improvement can only help. I wish a bountiful and blissful time to everyone who can still make it!

Ah well, sounds like it's for the best.. as much as that sucks sometimes.

...still somehow unique...
Best to just save your cash and try for AC next year or maybe try for one of the smaller cons somewhere. I won't be at AC this year either. Too soon and not in enough time to take off from work for it or the cash I'd need to do it.

Heh, I'll be staying home with ya.

In a metaphorical way... Cuz it'd be kinda creepy if I actually showed up on your couch.

Haha, but I have things to do anyway... So, yeah, maybe we'll have a chat-session with a few people on YIM who also couldn't make it, and develop some inside jokes we'll never explain to those who went :3

That'll help ease the pain a wee bit.

A wee wee bit

A wii wii wii bit... mwahahaha...
I won't be able to make it either. Not an issue with money, but AC just came earlier in the year than I was expecting and I wasn't able to get the time off from work. I definitely resign to be there next year though.

Bah, I'll just skip the people and consort with my usual advisors, Mr. Walker, Mr. Daniels, Captain Morgan, and maybe that girl from St. Pauli.

That would have been cool... well, at least for me. A not-so-widely known fact is that I'm actually a fat, ugly dude with no fashion sense with no resemblance whatsoever to this little DA icon. I'm not even black! That could be trouble, cause the best male artists in the fandom are almost universally black dudes =p

Are you planning on having a booth or a spot in the artist's alley this year?
